PROBLEM FRAMING :

The manager needs to understand the impact of ingredient price changes on:

  • Menu prices

  • Margins and food cost

The manager also needs to control how these changes are applied:

  • To a single branch or multiple branches

  • Immediately or by scheduling changes for other branches

Solution + User Flow :

I designed a structured pricing impact flow that allows managers to safely evaluate and apply ingredient cost changes across multiple branches.

The solution includes:

  • A centralized inventory view showing current ingredient costs

  • A clear mapping between ingredients and affected menu items

  • A simulation layer to preview impact on menu prices, margins, and food cost

  • Flexible branch controls to apply changes immediately or schedule them

  • A confirmation and tracking step to reduce errors and maintain visibility

The flow prioritizes financial clarity, control, and risk reduction while keeping the experience efficient for daily operational use.

Challenge :

Designing a pricing update system for a multi-branch coffee brand required balancing operational control with clarity and risk management.

The main challenge was enabling managers to simulate and apply cost changes across multiple branches without overwhelming them with complexity or increasing the risk of pricing errors.

Given that ingredient cost updates directly affect margins and food cost, the system needed to:

  • Provide clear impact visibility before applying changes

  • Support flexible branch-level control (immediate or scheduled updates)

  • Maintain a unified pricing structure while enabling branch-level flexibility

Assumptions

  • The manager manages all branches from a single place and interface

  • Ingredient cost changes affect food cost, while menu price changes impact margins

Constraints

  • The complexity of managing multiple branches from one place

  • Making an incorrect pricing decision could lead to losses in one or more branches

EXECUTION :

The final execution focused on translating complex operational logic into a clear and controlled experience

The solution brings structure, decision points, and branch-level controls into one cohesive flow allowing managers to adjust ingredient costs, instantly evaluate pricing impact, and confidently confirm changes across branches.

IMPACT :

  • Provides end-to-end visibility from cost change to final pricing confirmation

  • Reduces uncertainty and pricing errors across branches

  • Enables controlled, flexible rollout of updates without disrupting operations

  • Improves manager confidence when handling sensitive pricing decisions
